We accept poetry, fiction, and non-fiction up to a length of 2,500 words. If your word count exceeds this, make sure it hits us over the head. Bludgeons us with monstrosity. Send all work as an attachment (.doc or .rtf) or in the body of an e-mail to championsubs [at] gmail dot com. Include a short bio; cover letters are not needed. We do not accept entries via the post. Submissions are reviewed on a rolling basis. WE ARE CHAMPION is published 3 times year, roughly around April, August, and December. 

If sending shorter work, in the space of 100-500 words, feel free to send at least 3 different pieces. If sending longer work, in the range of 1,000-2,500, please include only one. Simultaneous submissions are fine, just let us know as soon as a piece has been accepted for publication elsewhere. Writing should be original and unpublished. We prefer not to re-print pieces, but it may come up. If a piece is first published in WE ARE CHAMPION, we only ask that this be acknowledged upon reprint. We hold the right to keep a copy of the piece in our archives during the duration of the site. All other rights of the work revert back to the author. 

In regard to aesthetics, here's a shortlist of things that keeps us satiated: Samuel Beckett, Donald Barthelme, Animal Collective, Barry Hannah, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly, the movies of Truffaut and Godard, the movies of Sam Peckinpah, early Truman Capote, Cormac McCarthy pre-Border trilogy, other literary journals (in particular: NY Tyrant, NO COLONY, Unsaid, Hobart, and American Short Fiction), Ol' Dirty Bastard, David Foster Wallace, Gary Lutz, the movies of Harmony Korine, Gordon Lish, Christine Schutt, John Cage, the movies of David Lynch, Sam Lipsyte, the comedy stylings of Eugene Mirman, William S. Burroughs, Ben Marcus, Gilles Deleuze, Illmatic, Futurists, Marty McFly's Nikes and hoverboard in Back to the Future II, Jordan dropping 55 wearing 45 at MSG, and on and on.
