DJI Spark Drone Vs. Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter

DJI Spark Drone Vs. Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter

The Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter has been in the market for a while and has delivered great performance and features to its users. With the release of the DJI Spark Drone, the two quadcopters are head to head in the market and comparisons are being drawn to see which of the two is better!

Both these drones come from the smaller sized drones segment and have great features and a decent flight time. Here’s a comparison of their most important features.

DJI Spark Drone

Camera

The DJI Spark delivers sharp and vivid detail in every frame and has the ability to record videos in 1080p as well as take pictures in 12MP. Its 2-axis mechanical gimbal and UltraSmooth technology provides smoother footage that isn’t shaky.

The Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter too can record videos in 1080P High Definition with its in-built camera. But it does not come with stabilization so the video quality is slightly inferior to that of the Spark’s.

The Spark also has various shooting and photo modes that make recording with it much easier.

Controlling the drone

To control the drone, the basic 4-channel transmitter that comes with the Hubsan H501S X4 FPV Quadcopter called the Multi-Functions FPV Remote Controller FPV2 is used. It features an easy to hold design and simple controls to fly the drone. It also has a 4.3-inch LCD with a resolution of 480 x 272 for easy viewing and monitoring of the footage that you record.

This 5.8Ghz video transmission function allows fliers to view what they are recording on the transmitter. With a transmission range of 300+ meters, it can easily be used long distance and its great technology will still provide clear video quality.

On the other hand, the DJI Spark can be controlled using a smartphone that allows users to perform all functions and access the different mode settings, as well as view what is being recorded.

Another cool way to control the drone is through Gesture control. Gesture Mode lets you conveniently take a selfie by making a particular gesture when the drone is pointing at you. Take a selfie by just raising your arms, waving your hand or making a frame with your fingers.

You can also separately buy the remote controller for the Spark as well if you wish to. It has a transmission distance of 327 ft. with Wi-Fi and 1.2 miles with the controller.

Flight features

The Hubsan X4 H501S comes with onboard GPS and barometer. Along with this it even has a headless mode and a return to home function that will make the quadcopter return home, or where it took off from, on command and not get lost.

There are other functions like altitude hold that allows fliers to keep the quadcopter at a certain level using the barometric pressure sensor. Another feature is the “follow me function” that allows the quadcopter to follow the flier.

Since DJI quadcopters are always rich in flight features, the Spark comes with FaceAware that recognizes your face and then within seconds the drone lifts off from your palm. It also has QuickShot, which lets users take videos with just a tap. Use modes like Rocket, Dronie, Circle and Helix to get the perfect picture. Other older modes such as ActiveTrack and TapFly are also available.

DJI Spark Drone

Battery

The Hubsan X4 H501S quadcopter is equipped with a 2300mAh 7.4V Lipo battery that has a flight time of about 20 minutes, with a charging time of around 150 minutes.

The Spark too has a similar flight time of up to 16 minutes on a complete charge, so both drones fare well here for their size.

Conclusion

While Hubsan quadcopters have always given a tough competition to DJI ones, the DJI Spark provides a more advanced flying system and features than the X4 H501S quadcopter. The Spark is priced at $499 and the Hubsan almost half of that at $269.

If price is your biggest criteria, then Hubsan is the quad for you, but if you do want to get more out of your flying experience, then Spark is what you should invest in.
